Gothic romance is a subset of historical romance that includes paranormal elements. Dark and ominous mansions or castles are a must, as are brooding heroes.
Erica Ridley’s Gothic Love Stories meet those criteria with the exceptional character development that makes the author so popular. I did find that the first two books in the series drag at the start, but bolt through the second half.
